What's New, What's Next Recap

September 20, 2011

The New York Design Center’s 3rd Annual ‘What’s New, What’s Next’ held on September 20 brought the events’ impressive 35-page program to life with extraordinary enthusiasm.  From 3 o’clock on, thousands flocked the historic building, energetic and eager to attend the variety of programs.  Upon entering the lobby, attendees found a sea of purple programs and emblazoned bags.

‘What’s New, What’s Next’ accomplished the goal of offering the very best in “new” design, with thousands of new product introductions, from over 55 showrooms.  The elevators were constantly in motion, delivering guests to all 16 floors to view products ranging from residential to contract, rugs to lighting, sofas to tiles, the ultra modern to traditional, and everything in between.  The common theme throughout—every introduction had never been shown in New York.

The industry’s top designers and editors headlined 33 informative and stimulating discussions as well as 43 ongoing presentations.  Guests traveled the building to attend the programs.  Highlights included: conversations with noted designers like Lesley Anton, Marian Jamieson, Tracy Kendall, Laura Kirar, Jayne and Joan Michaels, Richard Mishaan, Stephanie Odegard, Windsor Smith and Carleton Varney. Editors Michelle Adams, Cindy Allen, Ruth Altchek, Dara Caponigro, Wendy Goodman, Pamela Jaccarino, Jason Kontos, Ann Maine, Allison Mezzafonte, Rebecca Morse, Mitchell Owens, Amy Preiser, Margaret Russell, Newell Turner were in attendance and presented programs.  The evening also included a roster of “Blogger Ambassadors” along with four book signings.

The anticipated event boasted 13 media partners, each with their own unique programming; Architectural Digest, The Editor at Large, Elle Decor, The Home Observer, House Beautiful, Interior Design, Lonny, Luxe Interiors + Design, New York Magazine, New York Spaces, Traditional Home, Veranda and Wall Street Journal.

The New York Design Center prides itself on hosting this exciting event that brings the entire industry together, generating such a positive energy at the start of the fall event season.  The electricity created by ‘What’s New, What’s Next’ will continue as the NYDC focuses on always being NEW and NEXT in the design industry.
