THE SALON: ART & DESIGN Opening Night Gala

November 07-12, 2012

The Salon: Art & Design will open on Thursday, November 7th with a gala preview from 5:00-9:00pm to benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club at the Park Avenue Armory. The Salon will include 25 of France’s most prestigious dealers, many of whom will be exhibiting in New York for the first time. Sanford L. Smith & Associates will collaborate with the Syndicate National des Antiquaires, the largest and most prestigious association of art and design dealers in France and producer of the renowned Paris Biennale.

Jacques Grange, Benefit Committee Chairman and James P. Druckman, President, of the Board of Directors of Kips Bay and The New York Design Center will preside over a noteworthy benefit committee of important collectors and designers including Debra Black, Lee Mindel, Delphine & Reed Krakoff, Stephen Sills, Robert Couturier, Terry du Gunzberg, Bunny Williams, Tony Ingrao, Allison Maher Stern, Francois & Ketty Maisonrouge, Richard Meier, Jonathan & Lizzie Tisch, Patricia & Michael Sovern, Richard Meier, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and Brian McCarthy.

The fair, which runs from November 8th-12th, will be a reflection of today’s current trends in collecting, featuring great works of design, furniture from mid-century to the present, the finest in modern and contemporary art, Asian and ethnographic art.  The Salon is built around the notion that adventurous collectors no longer buy only one genre of antiques and fine art. Unlike antiques shows of the past, booths in the Salon will be designed with an eye toward the designer as well as the collector. Each work within the 53 booths will be vetted by a committee of experts to ensure its highest caliber and authenticity.

Notable dealers will include: L’Arc en Seine-Paris, Galerie Beres-Paris,Galerie du Passage, Christian Deydier-Paris, Barry Friedman/Friedman Benda-New York, Galerie Gmurzynska-Switzerland, James Goodman-New York, DJL Lalique, New York, Galerie Vallois-Paris, Alain de Monbrison-Paris and Modernity-Stockholm.
