SUMMER IN THE CITY WITH NEW YORK SPACES
June 17, 2009

Designers, architects and industry enthusiasts put away their spring rain boots and strapped on their finest dancing shoes on June 17th! As the summer heat spread through the city streets, New York Spaces magazine and the New York Design Center joined forces to entertain the design community with the first ever Summer in the City dance. New York truly came alive throughout the evening in the NYDC Grange showroom. Over 300 people enjoyed festive cocktails, fabulous food and popular beats while raising funds for "Furnish a Future—a Program of The Partnership for the Homeless." The lights were low, the music was loud and the melting pot that is New York City was conveyed through the eclectic food stations. Chinatown's dumplings, Little Italy’s cannolis and Washington Heights' empanadas were just a few of the tastings that reminded the guests of home. The fun didn’t stop there... prizes were awarded for the best dance moves during the event. New York Spaces Editor-in-Chief, Jason Kontos along with The Partnership for the Homeless' Valerie Moran and Designer Michael Tavano judged attendees based on the chandelier shimmy, the designer disco and the interior boogie. A perfect ending to the evening, included guests leaving additional donations on the way out as the crowd shouted "encore!"
