COLOMBO USA'S ART-DECO REVIVAL

The effect of Art-Deco after World War I on fashion, jewelry, architecture and especially home furnishings ushered in modern clean lines reflecting the industrial trends of the time and offered people a glamorous style for a new era.

Almost a century later, Colombo USA is reintroducing the elegant and refined style of this time period into their line. The “Revival of Art-Deco Collection” combines lavish details, shiny finishes and sleek lines. Reflective surfaces are prominent and achieved through the use of high lacquer, chrome and mirrors. These characteristics are some of the most recognizable traits of Art-Deco furnishings.

Always with an eye towards European style, Colombo is dedicated to bringing trends overseas to the U.S. Known for excellent craftsmanship and a dedication to perfecting ancient techniques, Colombo’s approach to Art-Deco possesses authentic detail true to the era.

For example, the Colombo collection uses the practice of verre églomisé, from the French term meaning glass gilded, a technique dating back to the early 18th century. The backside of the glass is hand-gilded with gold or metal leaf, then adhered with a gelatin and water solution. When dry, the gold or silver leaf is very gently rubbed and sealed in black paint, resulting in a stunning mirror-like finish in which designs can then be engraved.

This eye-catching collection is sure to evoke a sense of Art-Deco glamour, and is perfect for today’s modern home. Visit the Colombo showroom in Suite 809 to view their "Revival of Art-Deco Collection" by Adriano Colombo, as well as other high quality handcrafted pieces. This collection will be introduced for the first time in New York with the conjunction of What’s New What’s Next @ 200 Lex on September 23.
