Design 4 Healthcare November 18, 2009
The New York Design Center is constantly opening new doors and wowing us with new innovations and a plethora of vital pieces of furniture. Welcome to the world of healthcare design! Many attended the first of four healthcare programs on November 18th at the New York Design Center and were greeted with products that are not often highlighted in the NYDC showrooms. As Healthcare design continues to improve, furniture is extremely valuable to the hospital’s progress.
Products including the CARE chair from Kusch + Co assist in improving patient care, while David Edward’s Aussie line transforms public spaces into a comfortable and cohesive work environment and the intriguing fabric from Architex adds a level of beauty in the hospital rooms (pictured to the left).
These products plus hundreds more were introduced along with a presentation from renowned and successful healthcare practicing firm, Perkins + Will. Carolyn BaRoss, ASID, IIDA, LEED AP, Principal, Chris Bormann, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP Principal, Healthcare Market Sector Leader, Laura Morris, IIDA, AAHID, LEED AP, Senior Project Interior Designer and Kim Farrah, Resource Librarian spoke about the design and sustainability for a new Greenfield hospital.
Attendees gathered on the 14th floor for Perkins + Will’s presentation, learning about the design process, their collaboration to keep design intent with the client, the owner and the construction manager while staying on budget as well as the integration of high performance interior materials and sustainability in a modern healthcare setting.
Guests left the presentation with an abundant amount healthcare insight and traveled through the four contract floors for food, drink and a chance to win an annual dual MoMA membership.
