Glorious Gradients from The Rug Company
The Rug Company introduces Glorious Gradients, a new in-house collection consisting of five designs inspired by the ever-changing and all-consuming nature of the sky.
Collectively defined by their ombré appearance, each design independently exudes a sense of mystery through its fluid tonal variation. From the esoteric ambivalence of a twilight evening to the hopeful first light before sunrise, these rugs have been designed to evoke the familiar but magical feeling of transition.
A mastery of shadow and color is evident in this design as inky blues develop across the face of the
rug. Evocative of a city skyscape, Solstice juxtaposes the gentle color graduation with sharp lines to create
a graphic motif that hints toward urban light pollution. Hand knotted entirely in wool to emphasize a sense of unity in the otherworldly nature of this design.
Swathes of blues and greys unite to form a hazy mountainous motif. Crafted in a fusion of wool and silk, Olympus’ lustrous threads are carefully woven to illustrate the vision of mountain peaks floating amongst the clouds. Taking its name from Greece’s majestic Olympus Mountain, this design instils a sense of omnipotence.
Artist Kandinsky once said, “The deeper the blue becomes, the more strongly it calls man towards
the infinite.” This approach to blue and its spiritual associations is evident in Dippy Moonlight. Handcrafted entirely in wool, the spectrum of blue appears heavenly as deeper tones gradually dissolve into a light center.
Depicting the cyclic transition of light, Comet Day and Comet Night feature a clean linear motif that
encases the calming ombrè wool tones. As its name suggests, Comet Day explores the warm champagne
and rose tones that we see in the clear morning sky, while Comet Night is composed of cool hues that hint
towards the dusky evening light.
