Housing Works Celebrates 20th Anniversary of “Design on a Dime” Benefit
Housing Works hosted the 20th annual Design on a Dime (DOAD) benefit. The highly anticipated event brings together acclaimed designers and premium brands to curate vignettes and collections for an enviable showcase of luxury home decor, furnishings, and art. The three-day shopping event returned to the Metropolitan Pavilion with an exciting lineup of dozens of renowned interior design professionals.
The festivities began with the 20th Anniversary Celebration—a dinner and awards program honoring leaders and advocates in the design community who have created a home for humanitarianism over two decades. The next day featured the kick-off of everyone’s favorite shopping event of the year, where guests could shop the fabulous designer vignettes.
Design on a Dime is led by Founding Chair James “Ford” Huniford, and its event leadership includes a stellar cast of Designer Co-Chairs: Alessandra Branca, Rayman Boozer, Jamie Drake, Cliff Fong, Elissa Grayer, Young Huh, David Kaihoi, Charlotte Moss, Joy Moyler, and Miles Redd.
This year’s event featured an array of masterfully curated vignettes styled by a lineup of the industry’s most acclaimed designers. Each vignette showcased an expertly crafted assortment of luxury pieces donated by designers, dealers, galleries, shops, and hundreds of coveted home decor brands. Marked up to 80% off retail prices, the merchandise was be sold to benefit Housing Works’ lifesaving services and advocacy work to end the AIDS epidemic and to provide housing, healthcare, and social justice for all.
New to the event was The Lighting Emporium, which The New York Design Center was proud to support with a substantial donation that will support Housing Works for many years to come.
As DOAD celebrates its 20th anniversary, it has raised more than $24 million to support Housing Works’ charitable mission to end HIV/AIDS and homelessness. Generous donations from dedicated design aficionados and iconic home brands give their time, resources, and creative energy to bring the event to life.

“Twenty years ago, DOAD began as a small cohort of openhearted designers coming together at Housing Works in Chelsea to style a single nook and has grown to an extensive corps of designers and brands. The event was conceived as a means to harness the incredible generosity and creative force of the design community to honor our friends lost to AIDS and to help provide dignity and security to those living with HIV,” said Design on a Dime’s Founding Chair, James Huniford. “I am forever grateful for the continued support.”
