Perfect Pairs: John and Anne Pomp
John Pomp Studios, led by visionaries John and Anne Pomp, is known for its design-driven pieces using molten glass, warped metal, and refracted light to create imaginative, organic forms. We sat down with Anne Pomp to discuss what it is like to collaborate with your partner, and all the exciting things coming up for John Pomp Studios!
Give us the scoop on must-not-miss collections or pieces in your showroom that relate to women. There are so many supremely talented women that are artists and craftspeople that work with us in our Philadelphia studio to create all of the beautiful pieces you see in our showroom. It is guaranteed that the pieces you’ll find in our showroom have all passed through the hands of many women as they are being made.
What is it like to collaborate with your partner?
It’s a gift. From the beginning of our relationship, we were drawn to each other because there were qualities we each had that the other admired and respected. We’ve always wanted to learn from each other and that’s led to an inspiring partnership.
Can you share some of the perks as well as some of the challenges? The perks are being able to share all of the highest highs and lowest lows together. The biggest challenge is knowing when to leave work at work. It requires a lot of discipline to carve out time that is just for the two of you.
How do your aesthetics relate to one another? Our aesthetics, just like our personalities, compliment each other.
What are you most looking forward to accomplishing this year? We have some new collections we’ll be debuting in the showroom later this year. And John has been working on some exciting new one-of-a kind works – so stay tuned!
Do you have any exciting projects in the works or things happening in your life you want to share with us? We just launched a Pomp Gallery out in Los Angeles this past month. We took the Future Primitive art direction that was conceived in the New York Showroom here at the NYDC, and reinterpreted it for the Southern California locale.
