Profiles Introduces the Angelus Furniture Collection by Paul Siskin
Represented by Profiles, Paul Siskin unveils a new furniture collection consisting of seven wrought-iron tables inspired by a French 19th century café table the designer saw while passing a clothing store in Beverly Hills in the 1970s.
Paul Siskin, of Siskin Valls Interior Design based out of New York City, shares his inspiration behind the collection and where his love for furniture design began: “You could say that my furniture interest was born somewhere before the turn of the 20th century. My grandfather, Harry Siskin, learned his skills as a furniture maker in Russia before he migrated to America and settled in Los Angeles. Starting with a one-man operation manufacturing fainting couches, his business grew to be one of the largest furniture manufacturers west of the Mississippi.”
“In the 1970s while passing in front of the windows of one of Beverly Hills chicest clothing stores, I spotted a French 19th century cafe table used as a display prop. Finally convincing the owner that this “not for sale” item should be mine, it went home with me and has been with me in every apartment and house since,” Siskin continues.
“Finally ending up in my design office in New York, it has been the most requested item of decoration from my clients. Working with an ironworker in Shelter Island, Fran Taubman, seven different tables, a chaise lounge and settee were created (wrought-iron table bases) for this collection inspired by the 19th century French café table.
