Sossego Unveils the Angela Chair by Aristeu Pires
Sossego Modern Brazilian Design celebrates the global launch of the new Angela Chair, designed by the renowned Aristeu Pires. This sophisticated and versatile armless dining chair is the latest addition to the esteemed Angela Collection, which already includes an Armchair, Stool, and Lounge Chair.
The Angela Chair is distinguished by its signature backrest – a precisely stitched element that achieves a taut, hammock-like suspension, offering what Sossego describes as a “Responsive Embrace.” This innovative design provides both structural integrity and yielding comfort, cradling the user with adaptive support. The chair’s lack of arms allows for closer placement around tables, facilitates easier circulation in bustling dining and meeting scenarios, and enables higher-density seating arrangements to optimize space in both residential and hospitality settings.
The Angela Collection is a poignant tribute to the late architect Angela Basso, a pivotal friend who significantly influenced Pires’s creative trajectory. Basso was instrumental in encouraging Pires to submit his Gisele Lounge Chair to Brazil’s most important design award, the Museu da Casa Brasileira Award, which he won in 2007. This story of friendship and creative inspiration is deeply woven into the collection’s fabric. “A person remains alive until the last time their name is mentioned; I wished for Angela Basso to be immortalized,” shares Aristeu Pires.
