The Rug Company Introduces The Liberty Collection

For the first time, two titans of British design, The Rug Company and Liberty have collaborated on a collection of six timeless rugs inspired by Liberty’s extensive fabric archive that dates back to 1875.

A new collection of rugs from Liberty and The Rug Company. This collection pays homage to both brands’ British heritage and combines exceptional materials with popular design elements from the Aesthetic Movement and the Art-Nouveau period.

Speaking on the collection, Genevieve Bennett, Head of Design at Liberty says:

“I have always admired The Rug Company as a brand which, like Liberty, places craftsmanship, exquisite materials and beautiful design at its heart. The journey of seeing our designs rendered in new processes is always appealing, so to use traditional hand-knotting with silk and wool is incredibly exciting.”

With a sense of fluidity that is both bohemian and sophisticated, Hera features a flock of peacock feathers crafted in a deep tawny silk hue against a soft wool background. A true heritage icon, this motif first featured in Liberty’s repertoire in 1887 and is symbolic of the brand’s authority on elegant prints.

Unmistakably Art-Nouveau, Ianthe features organic lines and ornate detailing that signify the sense of optimism and growth associated with the artistic period. First designed for Liberty as a wallpaper border, Ianthe presents an intricate floral design formed through delicate creeping tendrils that unify around the edge of the rug.

Available in two colorways, Ianthe Jade is crafted in a palette of dusky blues and greens and framed with a strong emerald silk border. Both the base and swooping lines of this rug are woven in soft wool, while the decorative flower buds feature deeper silk tones. In contrast, Ianthe Pewter is crafted in a singular icy hue. The entire motif showcases a lustrous silver, which perfectly compliments the silk threads and natural wool background tones creates a trompe-l’oeil effect where the design appears to jump off the rug.

Milo features an expansive tapestry of flora and fauna. A tiger and deer are at the center of this design, surrounded by the maximalist silk illustrations that develop around them. The deeper tones in this design have been woven in soft wool, forming a glimpse of the background and highlighting the intricate motifs with shadowy green and blue threads.

Sleek and refined, Hana draws inspiration from the Art-Nouveau movement in Japan. Recognized by its whiplash curves, rebellious fluid lines command the attention of this design as delicate florals blow across the face of the rug. Despite facing the force of nature, the poppy motif remains delicate and refined, symbolizing the release found by designers during this artistic movement.

Available in two colorways, Hana Lacquer and Hana Lapis both offer a luxurious aesthetic. Lapis features a harmonious palette of icy blue tones, highlighted with gold accents. Meanwhile, organic olive and sage tones compliment amber florals in Lacquer, which creates a gentler appearance. Both designs have been woven in a fusion of silk and wool.
