The Rug Company’s New Textures: Softscapes & Mohair Ripples

The Rug Company has launched two new collections of textured designs. Inspired by the harmonious natural patterns found in traditional Japanese landscapes, Softscapes is a collection of four handloomed designs, each available in two colourways. Additionally, Mohair Ripples showcases a new handknotted design, available in four colourways.

From Softscapes, Ariso, meaning rocky shore, balances the uniformity of pattern with the unpredictability of nature. In a blend of muted blue hues, Ariso Midnight embodies the reflection of the dark night sky in water. As night becomes day, Ariso Pearl provides the alternative, complementing natural light and brightening a space.

In a manner reminiscent of the traditional skills used to enhance the beauty of Japanese gardens, Sono uses the finest materials and techniques to showcase the exceptional quality of this design. Against a sumptuous wool base, Sono Shell features a sweeping silk motif, elevated through carving techniques to emphasise the sea-beaten texture of a shell’s surface. Sono Salmon’s soft clay palette further distinguishes the tactility of the design, as the silk motif catches the light and contrasts the darker
wool base.

Ori takes inspiration from the tradition of folding paper into origami-like formations. Handloomed entirely in silk, Ori presents the natural opulence ofraw materials. Ori Gold combines colour, material and technique to create a scene of authentic glamour that sings from its surface. Ori Lake’s darker palette captures the rumblings of a moody sky. The multitonal appearance seen throughout the singular hue
is created using a heavy carving technique that empowers Ori Lake to dominate a space with its dramatic presence.

Inspired by the natural form of an estuary, Edo places power in simplicity with a minimalist design that complements a variety of spaces. Influenced by the Japanese cherry blossom, Edo Blush provides a delicate pink shade that provides warmth and comfort to a space. Edo Porcelain’s cooler tones will enhance minimalist spaces, opening the surroundings to bright, natural light.

Mohair Ripples embodies rhythmic reverberations, inspired by the ripples that form after the gust of a strong breeze across the surface of the water. Innovative hand carving techniques elevate the motif, transforming a singular shade into a captivating multi-tonal display. Handknotted in a sumptuous Mohair quality, each colourway places power in simplicity, showcasing exceptional quality and expert craftsmanship.
