Women in design: A Conversation with Anne Pomp and Michelle Gerson
In honor of New York Design Center’s Women in Design, we sat down with Anne Pomp, President of Sales and Finance for John Pomp Studios, and Michelle Gerson of Michelle Gerson Interiors in the extraordinary John Pomp Studios showroom (Suite 1201) to discuss the role of trust in working with clients.
About Anne:
With a degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, Anne Pomp started her early career in New York City as an Operation Manager at a biotech hedge fund. In 2006, unfulfilled in her career – and after meeting John, who shared her love of organic beauty – Anne joined the company to spearhead operations for John Pomp Studios. Since 2006 at the executive level, Anne has led the financial, operations, and sales departments of the company with precision – managing showroom partner relationships, the expansion of the in-house sales team, the accounting team, and much more.
Anne is proud to have launched Pomp Giving, the company’s nonprofit arm that gives back to the Philadelphia community every quarter. Out of the office, Anne joins John and their two young boys on trips to vacation homes in Cape May, New Jersey and the Big Island of Hawaii, reconnecting and recharging in nature. In her spare time, Anne enjoys yoga, ikebana floral arranging, and creating ceramics for her indoor garden room.
About Michelle:
Michelle Gerson launched her eponymous, New York-based design firm, Michelle Gerson Interiors in 1998 after leaving behind a successful career in fashion to pursue her passion for interior design.
Since then, Michelle has gained recognition for her modern eclectic approach to design, pairing luxurious furnishings designed for the eye and built for comfort with deco and mid-century elements to create sophisticated interiors that are both glamorous and approachable.
Michelle’s extensive network of resources is as diverse as her clientele, for whom Michelle has designed high-end homes throughout New York, the Hamptons, New Jersey, Westchester, Connecticut, Palm Beach, Miami, Nantucket, Boston, Chicago, Aspen and London. In addition to her extensive residential work, Michelle has also designed Dr. Shereene Idriss’ New York City practice and jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher’s showroom on 5th Avenue, her stores in Soho and Beverly Hills and, most recently, her new Madison Avenue flagship.
She has also participated in illustrious industry events including Design on a Dime, the Hampton Designer Showhouse and, most recently, the 2024 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York. The acclaimed designer also has a successful tile collection in collaboration with Artistic Tile. Offering a striking take on basic geometric shapes, Game On by Michelle Gerson is an expression of Michelle’s distinct approach to design: it’s unapologetically bold, utterly luxe and thoroughly modern.
Michelle’s work has appeared in top publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Hamptons Magazine, LUXE Interiors + Design, Modern Luxury Interiors, New York Cottages & Gardens, Sotheby’s Home, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
