Drawing on Pei’s couture background, the collection exhibits meticulous and elaborate detailing, combining elements of fashion, design and art into a spectacle that serves to inspire. Steeped in respect for tradition each design transcends its beauty by encapsulating the complex history of Chinese culture through reinterpreting evocative tokens and motifs

A pioneer of Couture, Pei is recognized for her dedication to heritage fashion, exquisite embroidery, and a traditional style of grandeur. This fierce devotion has earned Pei the revered status as China’s ‘Queen of Couture’, appointment as a founding member of the Asian Couture Federation and recipient of numerous international accolades and awards. For over 25 years, Pei has been at the forefront of China’s creative and cultural renaissance and stands as one of her generation’s most acclaimed creative visionaries.

In a fusion of ancient craftsmanship, Splendour presents a regal border design, offering a nod to Pei’s signature embroidery. The intricate pattern is elevated in a palette of blue silk against the soft wool background, inspired by both Western architectural detailing found in the Musée du Louvre and traditional Eastern inlaid filigree – one of the ‘Eight Unique Skills of Yanjing’.

A spectacle for the eyes, Dragon Mist showcases an intricate dragon enveloped by meticulous ornate detailing and billowing clouds. Drawing on traditional Chinese illustration, this design captures a sense of omnipotent energy and mesmerizing appeal.

With exquisite detailing, Secret Garden combines China’s most auspicious symbols to create a fantasy-inspired motif. In true Pei style, this design is reminiscent of the grandeur and precision used in tailoring during the rule of Chinese dynasties.

Tempest Day and Tempest Night play on the symbolism of waves and their emotional ability to ignite a sense of power and calm. Roaring waves whip around the border of this design, leaving a center of stillness amongst the chaos.

An adaption of the prolific and highly commemorated dress worn by Rihanna at the 2015 MET Gala, Empress Gold is symbolic of feminine power. With a traditional sense of grandeur, this design has been handcrafted entirely in silk. Available in two colorways, Empress Gold takes Pei’s affiliation with yellow and its representation of power and prosperity in Chinese culture, while Empress Coral features soft pale greens and pinks.

Infused with a rich cultural history, Lion Dance depicts Pei’s dedication to tradition, ritual, and craftsmanship. Two graceful lions leap across the pastel background, chasing the mythical hydrangea ball, symbolizing wisdom and good fortune. Lion Dance is available in two unique colorways, the first in a calming blue and the second in a warm pink.

All the designs in this collection have been woven by The Rug Company’s expert craftspeople, with the finest wool and silk. Get an up-close look at the new collection at The Rug Company on 15th Floor of 200 Lex.
