At 60 inches in diameter, this monumental work expands upon the artist’s celebrated 36-inch chandelier, merging influences from Art Nouveau and the American Studio Craft movement through Haining’s distinctly contemporary approach to design. Crafted from thousands of individually stacked pieces of reclaimed wood sourced from New York City’s discarded architectural and industrial landscape, the chandelier embodies a process of renewal. Built layer by layer like a coiled ceramic vessel or an analog 3D print, each form is shaped by hand before being refined into a seamless surface. The subtle shifts in color and grain reveal the material’s previous life—preserving a visible record of time, place, and transformation within a singular sculptural object.

Atlas is a woven rug developed in close collaboration with Barber Osgerby. The design reflects a shared interest in allowing the loom’s inherent logic to guide form and surface. Constructed with a double-weft technique, the rug has a substantial feel with a surface defined by depth and tonal variation. In Atlas, the warp threads remain visible within the weave — an uncommon feature that contributes texture and a subtle shift in light across the rug. The interplay between warp and weft gives it a layered character, where color is integrated deep into its structure. Grounded and textural, Atlas is suited to architectural interiors where a strong material integrity and presence is central.

Entirely hand-painted by master artisans using the traditional Son Mai lacquer technique, each piece requires exceptional skill and attention to detail, resulting in a finish with subtle variations that make every piece unique. Designed in collaboration with Miles Redd, it combines purposeful functionality with exceptional craftsmanship, honoring traditional techniques through contemporary design.

The design unfolds through a masterful interplay of techniques: first printed on raw silk, then brought to life with delicate embroidery, metallic beadwork, and softly shimmering sequins.  A natural raffia tail extends from the bird, adding movement and dimension, swaying gently as if caught mid-flight. The artistry continues beyond the front: turn the pillow over to discover butterflies flitting across the back, an unexpected detail that completes the story.  Expressive, intricate, and full of wonder,  Birdsong is a celebration of craftsmanship-and a true surprise from every angle.
