Here’s How Lorin Marsh’s Jackson Gladden Celebrates the Holidays in New York City
There is a rare magic to spending the holidays in Manhattan, where the season’s charm is woven into every corner of the city. From the towering grandeur of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree to the timeless elegance of Fifth Avenue’s holiday windows, the city exudes a festive splendor that is both opulent and captivating. Ice skaters glide beneath the city’s shimmering skyline, while the twinkling lights of Bryant Park’s winter market and the rich cultural offerings of Broadway, Radio City Music Hall and Lincoln Center add to the enchantment.
Whether wandering through snow-dusted streets or Central Park, savoring seasonal delicacies or indulging in the city’s vibrant arts scene, the holidays in New York City offer an unparalleled blend of elegance, energy and tradition. Jackson Gladden, owner and president of Lorin Marsh, Suite 400, shares these sentiments, and he’s dishing on his favorite Big Apple holiday moments below.
Come by the New York Design Center to see how Jackson brought some of this magic to our lobby with holiday decorations you can implement at home.
HOLIDAY SPIRIT
“It’s so interesting how the feeling in NYC instantly changes during the holiday season. There are noticeably more smiles on the sidewalks and people generally just appear happier—how could you not, because it’s such a beautiful time to live in or visit the city!”
TIME-HONORED TRADITIONS
“I love going to see the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular every year. It’s a nice New York tradition that has stood the test of time and is constantly a changing show! Fun for both locals and people visiting the city. I also love joining the crowds on Fifth Avenue to see all the holiday windows, particularly at Bergdorf Goodman—it never disappoints. It’s always imaginative and so tastefully done.”
FESTIVE COCKTAILS
“The Baccarat Hotel Grand Salon is a go-to favorite during the entire year but it’s also nicely situated in the city to grab a holiday cocktail and see the holiday decor of Fifth Avenue/Midtown. I recommend a slightly dirty gin martini with bleu cheese olives or an espresso martini with Casamigos.”
THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT
“As I mentioned, I love the Rockettes. And my favorite holiday attraction is seeing what places like Saks Fifth Avenue or Louis Vuitton will do with their facades since it’s usually some kind of amazing light or music show that will play on repeat. It’s also a good time to get dressed up in your formal layers and see what’s playing at Lincoln Center. The chill in the air and the holiday buzz makes going to the ballet or the opera that much more fun and special.”
DINE IN
“I usually like to take the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas and try a new recipe. Somehow we accumulate all of these cookbooks as gifts or on travel and it’s a nice time to pull them out and give something new a try. I prefer to stay in and cook or host on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. Whether you and your friends and family are dressed up for the holiday or in pajamas, it’s a great time to not be at a restaurant.”
