Refractions by artist Lorin Silverman at the Donzella Project Space
Donzella Ltd. is pleased to announce REFRACTIONS, October 16 – November 21, 2025 in the Donzella Project Space (suite 1509). This will be the first solo exhibition by glass artist Lorin Silverman. The gallery will present sixteen original works by Silverman, nine of which have been newly created specifically for the show.
The exhibition includes chandeliers, pendant lighting, sconces, and a floor lamp, all featuring his technically intricate Morel shapes and beautifully colored glass bowls embedded with a variety of metallic foils. “Silverman is among the next generation of glass artists destined to be a big name. With this show, you see more of the artist’s hand in the work—Lorin has pushed his technical prowess on many of the newer pieces, and I hope people will be able to see that. We expect this to be a real breakout moment for him, ” says Paul Donzella, founder of Donzella Ltd.
Lorin Silverman is known for creating glass lighting sculptures that balance precision and imperfection. His works often appear machine-perfect, yet reveal the artist’s hand through subtle textures and organic forms. The new series, including pieces from the ongoing Morel collection, captures fleeting moments of movement, texture, and optical play—seemingly frozen in time. This exhibition, featuring his hand-blown pieces made in his glass-blowing Studio at Brooklyn’s famed Urban Glass reflects his ability to continually push his craft, exploring new forms and vivid, painterly colors.
This series marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s career, having evolved from making functional lighting to creating ambitious sculptural works that push the boundaries of contemporary glass. Rippling surfaces and refracted light evoke water, memory, the night sky, and natural phenomena, while meticulously engineered fittings root the pieces in rigorous design. His process blends technical precision with an openness to chance, working with CAD renderings and machinists for fittings, while insisting on the hand-made integrity of each glass form. He embraces both the heritage of Venetian craft and the freedom of contemporary experimentation, situating his work in dialogue with figures such as Dale Chilhuly, Jeff Zimmerman, and Lindsey Adelman.
