Women in Design
The Rug Company Collaborations
From Vivienne Westwood to Diane Von Furstenberg, The Rug Company has collaborated with a number of trailblazing women who are known for challenging stereotypes and shaping the design industry that we know today.
Diane Von Furstenberg
Diane Von Furstenberg’s career represents a period of female uprising in fashion, innovating designs such as the wrap-dress and reframing the concept of femininity to co-exist with feminism. Diane Von Furstenberg’s collection for The Rug Company translates the designer’s
powerful prints and archival trove of patterns into an array of striking designs for the floor.
Inspired by a collage of news headlines, Kaleidoscope Leopard features 22 colours hand knotted by our expert weavers in Nepal to create a colourful collage.
Vivienne Westwood
Challenging The Establishment and paving the way for the rebellion of the Punk Movement, Vivienne Westwood is known for her iconic impact on British fashion. In 2005 The Rug Company worked closely with the designer to translate her emblematic prints into art for
the floor.
Paying homage to Westwood’s affinity with Scotland, Thistle Pewter reimagines the national flower with a graphic lens, showcasing explosive motifs across the surface.
Kelly Behun
New York-based designer Kelly Behun is known for her artistic eye and offbeat accents, integrating art throughout her projects to encourage a sensory experience. Throughout her career, the AD 100 Interior Designer has used her platform to debut art from upcoming female artists throughout a number of high-profile projects.
Eclipse by Kelly Behun for The Rug Company translates the view from the designer’s apartment (as pictured) into an abstract scene that transforms its surroundings with a
calming ombre effect.
Helen Amy Murray
Founding her own design studio in 2002, Helen Amy Murray has become a recognized artist and designer across the world. With a distinct style, the designer takes inspiration from nature, creating unique designs that experiment with patterns, structures and materials.
Shoal Mist textually translates Murray’s favorable flare. Hand knotted entirely in a lustrous silk yarn; this design features a handcrafted organic wave-like motif that elegantly ripples across the design.
