Voutsa and CW Stockwell Partner to Introduce Martinique Celebration
Two well-known textile brands, Voutsa and CW Stockwell, partner to create and introduce Martinique Celebration, a collection of five bespoke fabric and wallcovering patterns.
The seed for this unexpected partnership was planted in January 2020. Stepping in as the new CEO, CW Stockwell’s Katy Polsby was looking to create something truly new and happy. Then the pandemic happened.
“The vision of our iconic Martinique® pattern, adorned with hand-painted flare quite suddenly floated across my brain about one year ago,” says Polsby. “It was an incomplete vision, but it turned out to be a well-timed seedling for an idea, as shortly thereafter, George unexpectedly contacted me to congratulate me on our brand’s relaunch. In that moment it was clear – he would be the perfect person to help complete this vision. Our first meeting was in Voutsa’s Los Angeles studio on January 2, 2020. This collection was born on New Year’s Day, created during quarantine, and finished on election day. We hope that its insouciance, fluidity and cheer hint at what lies ahead for 2021 and beyond.”
Launching this month, Martinique reinterprets CW Stockwell’s iconic banana leaf print using a rich combination of mediums, scale, and color. All five patterns – Henri, David, Werner, Josef, and Theodor – are available as fabric and wallpaper. The patterns were named in homage to the artists who inspired them: Henri Matisse, David Hockney, Werner Herzog, Josef Frank—and Dr. Seuss
The collection is now on view at the New York Design Center in the both the Voutsa Showroom (suite 420) and Harbinger Showroom (suite 601). Visit nydc.com/showrooms to schedule an appointment.
