Coastal Threads by The Rug Company and Jeffrey Alan Marks
The Rug Company has collaborated with interior design icon Jeffrey Alan Marks to create four new rugs. Entitled Coastal Threads this collection explores familiar tropes from in and around the water and reimagines them into ethereal designs that will effortlessly captivate a space.
In designing this collection, Marks drew upon his experiences on the East and West Coasts, citing dynamic waves, vintage fishing nets and celestial sand dollars as inspiration. Each piece is meticulously handwoven using the finest wool, silk and bamboo silk to create a luminous, water-colored effect.
Inspired by the Shell Beach tide pools at Marks’ local beach, Dunemere features delicate sand dollars that float across the surface of the rug, imparting a gentle vivacity and an asymmetrical composition. This otherworldly appearance has been created by weaving the motif in three silk hues against a neutral wool background to create an imprinted effect.
A symphony of blue watercolors, Windansea features gestural brushstrokes that dance across the rug like a ripple of wind across the tide. Inspired by the waves
of the La Jolla beach where Marks grew up surfing, this rug has been handwoven in a blend of wool and bamboo silk to capture the effect of shimmering waves.
Delicate tendrils gracefully entwine in an underwater dance across Avalon, echoing the wildflowers found in the burbling streams on Catalina Island during spring. Handcrafted on a wool base, the shimmering silk motif evokes the natural beauty of Marks’ inspiration. This design is available in a rectangular and round shape.
Miramar features a vintage fishing net motif woven in a fusion of three silk blue hues against a neutral wool background to create an inverted effect as if viewing the design underwater. This serene, distorted appearance blends light cerulean with deep indigo hues and is inspired by the calm seascape of boats anchored past the waves of Marks’ favorite Montecito beach. This design is available in a rectangular and round shape.
This collection is available from The Rug Company showroom in suite 1515, and therugcompany.com. In addition to the stock pieces available, each design can be tailored to suit the requirements of both residential and contract spaces. The collection can be ordered as wall-to-wall carpet or stair runner or adapted in size, shape, pile height or color.
