Event Recap: Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club President’s Dinner
Last Thursday evening, the nation’s design industry elite gathered at the annual Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club President’s Dinner to honor Schumacher and grant the Lifetime Achievement Award to design legend Ed Hollander. The evening also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York, which will take place this fall. This year’s event attendees helped to raise over $1.4 million dollars to fund essential afterschool programs for more than 11,000 young people at nine locations throughout the Bronx. The New York Design Center was once again proud to sponsor this special evening.
Held at New York’s Cipriani 42nd Street, the black-tie event was chaired by celebrated designers Jamie Drake and Corey Damen Jenkins, vice-chaired by acclaimed designers Sasha Bikoff, Jesse Carrier, Mara Miller, Alexa Hampton, Young Huh, Andrew Torrey, Jonathan Savage, and Alessandra Branca.
Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Broad of Trustees President James Druckman opened the evening, welcoming guests and thanking them for their support. Dinner Chairs Jamie Drake and Corey Damen Jenkins, then addressed the audience, sharing more about next month’s release of the highly anticipated book, Iconic Rooms: Kips Bay New York Decorator Show House at 50 (Gibbs Smith). Later, Matouk CEO George Matouk introduced Emily Romero, President of Schumacher North America and Schumacher Creative Director Dara Caponigro, who accepted the corporate honoree award on behalf of Schumacher, a longtime supporter of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Bunny Williams then presented friend and collaborator, Edmund Hollander, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Daniel Quintero, Executive Director of Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, closed the evening with the annual Sponsor a Child fundraiser, which filled the venue with balloons, each representing a donation to the organization. Throughout the evening guests enjoyed song and dance performances by members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s Performing Arts Program.
The President’s Dinner raises money to provide more than 11,000 young people between the ages of 6 and 18 at nine locations throughout the Bronx with essential after-school and enrichment programs, aimed to help them recognize their potential for growth and success. Today, the club is proudly one of the most prominent and responsive youth development agencies in New York City and a “flagship” of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Since the organization was established over 100 years ago, they have grown into a recognized leader among the 4,500 Boys & Girls Clubs nationally.
