Merida in Paris
Inspired by the rich culture and history of textiles, Merida explores the perception of art through their rugs. Leading their studio as Artistic Director, Paris-based Artist Sylvie Johnson, works with Merida’s team to create one-of-a-kind pieces that go far beyond the typical floor covering. Their collaboration explores themes of movement, nature, and memory.
Merida’s newest exhibition, Beginnings, curated by Sylvie Johnson and Galerie Le Minotaure’s director Benoit Sapiro, debuted in Paris last month at the Galerie Alain Le Gaillard. The show displayed six pieces from Merida’s Outside Within series, each piece revealing a striking red hue meant to evoke the essence of lava and the beginnings of life on Earth. Alongside Merida’s pieces was a set of constructivist and biomorphic paintings from the 1920s and 30s pulled from Galerie Le Minotaure’s collection. The show invited visitors to experience the works of two distinct disciplines in an immersive way.
Visit Merida’s showroom on the 5th floor of 200 Lex to see their recent curation, Elements: Outside Within, which features their recent works designed by Sylvie Johnson from Merida. Each piece of collectible design is created in one hundred unique editions in Fall River, Massachusetts.
