The Importance of Beauty: View from the Veranda Panel Recap
On Tuesday April 13th, the New York Design Center hosted a conversation with author, artist, and one of the Salonnière 100 Best Party Hosts, Frances Schultz, and Veranda’s Steele Marcoux as part of it’s ongoing View from the Veranda lecture series.
Exploring the art of hospitality and gathering creatively in 2021, Frances and Steele discussed the importance of beauty in the past 12-15 months, and why it’s more important now than ever before.
Steele: With all the uncertainty, fear and loss we’ve all been facing, how do you make time for what you do and how do you make it important?
Frances: That’s such a great question, and such an important topic for all of us in the design world. The real overarching question here is does beauty matter? And what we’re talking about today is making things beautiful and celebrating beauty in everyday living. My response to that question is the more dark the times we’re in, the more light we need to bring to them. So yes, of course beauty matters. Beauty is a harmony between the senses and the soul. The more we can create of that in our lives, the better.
